After growing up in Lakewood, I graduated from Lakewood High School and then earned a bachelor's degree in Environmental Studies and Biology from Ohio Wesleyan University. I returned to Lakewood, working in the non-profit sector for many years, including as the Education Coordinator for a local environmental organization. After the birth of my oldest son, I left the non-profit sector to stay home raising my children for several years.
As a nearly lifetime Lakewood resident, I have always cherished our community. But in my years as a stay at home mom, I came to love Lakewood even more, finding hidden treasures while walking my children to school, becoming involved in community organizations, and enjoying all the wonderful opportunities Lakewood has to offer.
In the winter of 2009, I married my long time passions of gardening, the local food movement, environmental stewardship and cooking with fresh food into creating Lakewood's first urban farm, Basil and Beyond. True to my long time dedication to environmental stewardship, Basil and Beyond is operated as a small, environmentally sustainable business. We only grow all natural herbs, using no synthetic herbicides, pesticides or fertilizers. Herbs are grown very close to where they are sold and Basil and Beyond uses no large farm equipment, which uses significantly less energy and produces significantly less pollution compared to traditional food production.
Thank you for your support. Please feel free to contact me with any questions and I look forward to serving you.
